Crunchyroll Inc caught the attention of many people, not only otakus, but also the anime industry.
but... What's Crunchyroll?
It is only a website that streams anime, videos and oriental series. ( <3>Indeed, this little detail caught the attention of many people. Today, Crunchyroll site has over 4 mill unique visits, 250 mil pageviews and 50 mil stream videos monthly, 40% of them are from United States.This fast growing company was the talk about topic of many Anime distribution companies and as well investors. Here is when Venrock comes into the picture, by helping crunchyroll with a secured capital investment of $4.05mill.
Additionally, Funimation Entertainment anounced they has been constantly monitoring crunchyroll.com. FE said since 2006 they has benn sending letters to this site about the copyright infrigments. Crunchyroll, as a good company, removed all licensed anime and they even posted "please support this anime and buy the DVDs". (I cant think of any better idea, I gotta admit the good work of crunchy).
Bandai doesnt stay behind, and 4 hours after F.E. finish their press conference, Bandai announced that they agreed with F.E. about their concern about free streaming anime videos and they have also sent letters to crunchy about licensed series. Crunchyroll did they same thing as they did with F.E.
"If you cant fight against them , join them!"
Apparently, Gonzo/GD, instead of go agains them, they decided to have a serious talk about working together
“we are talking about exchangin ideas of working together , so we both get benefits from it”
Gonzo is planning to do an official press conference to clarify things.
Crunchyroll previously said that DEL production Company gave them authorization to show the first episode of the serie Eagle Talon The Movie - The Chancellor Only Lives Twice. This episode was the first video anime int he site to be legally authorized.
Let's hope Crunchyroll keeps growing and make happy all the otakus :)
